Cities on the Move IV (Midnight Sun)
1999
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebeak, Denmark
Artspace1%, Copenhagen, Denmark

Back in Europe, both tuk-tuks were transported to Copenhagen by truck. Again, it was in the winter and the tuk-tuks had no chance of operating in the harsh Scandinavian weather. After several unsuccessful tests, the organisers suggested parking them as art objects again. However, since the project took place at two different spaces, one tuk-tuk was presented at each location; one with the group show at the Louisiana Museum in the suburbs of Copenhagen and the other as a solo work at Artspace 1%, a non-profit gallery in downtown. The interior of Artspace 1% was turned into a film library allowing visitors to select their own Thai films to view, with a selection of around 100 Thai films and their corresponding posters displayed on the walls. With most films devoid of subtitles, at the opening a specially created east-meets-west Cities on the Move cocktail was also served. Narrating the life of the Thai tuk-tuk driver and his latest love affair, new posters were produced as billboards at various locations in the city.
