Art in Southeast Asia 1997: Glimpse into the Future
1997
Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Hiroshima, Japan

As a touring show from Tokyo in the same year, this time 12,000 pieces of Pha Khao Mar Uncle Pan were sent to Hiroshima. People at the museum were greeted by the large light-box billboard of “Welcome to Pha Khao Mar on Tour” slogan with a smiling shot of Uncle Pan wearing only his Pha Khao Mar at his home in Chiang Mai. Cloths were distributed from a bamboo bench in front of the video room. Some extra pieces of Pha Khao Mar cloth have been kept in the museum’s storage since the end of exhibition and being used by visiting artists for a few workshops with local residents. More cloths are still there!
