Art in Southeast Asia 1997: Glimpse into the Future
1997
Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan

With custom-made Pha Khao Mar outfits and golden Rolex watches, Navin Production CEO and former Sales Manager Kosit Juntaratip were accompanied by a Japanese girl travelling to Tokyo’s Museum of Contemporary Art by luxury limousine. Surrounded by cameras, they walked into the museum just as the opening ceremony’s president was finishing his speech. The two red-hair artists and the girl with her 60’s hair-style walked into the gallery before everyone entered, opening boxes of Navin Production Pha Khao Mar Uncle Pan and distributing the cloth to every guest, while inviting them to watch the film on Thai reed mats. At the launch of Pha Khao Mar on Tour project in 1997, 20,000 pieces of cloth were given to museum visitors with Navin still receiving ongoing feedback from people about their cloth.
