Masculine & Feminine
1992
Mixed Media

Examining the semiotics of language, twelve pairs of composite square tiled frames were composed for this early piece, through which the artist playfully contrasted yin-yang, male-female associations to gender specifics. The two rows of Masculine and Feminine symbols paired up a curious spectrum of visual signage, written words, related numbers, and associated imagery. Between the panels is a mirror for self-evaluation and dictionary definitions on sexual classification.
