YOKOSO! Navin Party
2007
Show Me Thai
Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Japan

A part of the Show Me Thai exhibition to commemorate 120 years of diplomat relationship between Thailand and Japan, Navin Party gained official endorsement with the official signing of a joint declaration of support by the both countries. A signed agreement between Thai Ministry of Culture’s Director-General for the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo’s Chief Curator, Yuko Hasegawa, was presented inside a glass case. The declaration was displayed underneath a large billboard painting YOKOSO! Navin Party, appropriated from a Japanese propaganda poster that was distributed in China during the Japanese occupation in the early 20th century. The Navins of Bollywood film was shown inside a tent which also acted as the Navin Party Mobile Unit with exterior paintings based upon the search for Navins and the journey of Navin Party. The project also launched Friends of the Navin Party, opening the Navin Party to non-members. Festivities also included a party featuring Navin Curry from Osaka, NaVin wine from Slovakia and the Tokyo release of Navin’s Thermos CD Six Reasons to Leave Your Lover. The occasion also released the second edition of The Navinist which published in English and Japanese.
