Life on Board

Ad Campaign for Volvo V50
Hong Kong, China

As a part of their advertising campaign, Volvo invited interesting figures to talk with other interesting people they’ve never met before. Putting them in different models of Volvo car and asking them to share their stories and talk about life in general as they drive through inspiring locations across the world, Life on Board project was a series of short documentary films presenting unscripted conversations reflecting the richness of life through various experiences. Navin Rawanchaikul was asked to be on board with the V50 model. Accompanied by his collaborative friend Pandit Chanrochanakit, they converted a V50 into Mobile Research Unit (MRU), wherein they would pick up passengers from all strata of society and interview them upon the “Change of Life”. Hong Kong was chosen for the location shoot as it has a unique international flavour, and driving around the island for three days, they shared conversations with 50 passengers. The video footage was edited down into a series of short 20-second and 30-second TV commercials, with a seven-minute version posted on Volvo’s official website. A series of printed ads were also published throughout international magazines. This encounter was later made into a comic by Navin Production.
