Super(m)art @ Yokohama
2005
Yokohama 2005: International Triennale of Contemporary Art
Yokohama, Japan

In its ultimate manifestation to date, Super(m)art expanded its themes by developing five Monopoly-style board games – How to be a Successful Curator, Artist, Critic, Gallerist, and the main game Super(m)artistic CEO. Set in the atmospheric caged in warehouse at Yamashita Pier, visitors would compete in weekly rounds of the four board games with the winners selected to battle on through to play in the Super(m)artistic CEO finals. With each game a critical insight on how to play the game of art, league charts were posted on the walls along with winner’s photos, with medals awarded to every player got and a trophy for the CEO game winner. A five-volume comic series, (M)art Circus was produced that continues with Old Navin recruiting the help of the ghost of Duchamp and other famous spectral artists in his fight against Curatorman and his lack of ethics. Larger than life caricature papier-mâché models of the legendary art history celebrities were dotted around the warehouse in a (M)art Circus, with the main board game winners earning the privilege of having their portraits painted ‘live’ into another Veronese interpretive painting. The painting also appropriated scenes and art works found at the Triennale while included staff who involved in this project. The large painting was finished during the final hour of the Triennale after declaring the ultimate Super(m)artistic CEO from the 800 players who had played over 200 games over the previous two months. This time the project was presented under the label ©uratorman Inc. with more than 50 collaborators.
