I, My, Me, Mine and Myself
1994
4th Asian Art Show
Fukuoka Art Museum, Fukuoka, Japan

Created in Fukuoka as part of a workshop program for Navin Rawanchaikul’s first overseas exhibition, he placed ten large blank books on the museum floor opened at the middle pages. The inside of the books were hollowed out into two rectangular coffin shapes with earth placed inside. Two old glass bottles rested atop the soil, one bottle contained pictures of elderly Japanese people from different areas around Fukuoka, the other had the labelled words I, My, Me, Mine, Myself written in Japanese script. Continuing with his themes of the elderly being marginalised, on the wall behind the same five words in Japanese and English were written across ten canvases.
